Actionextra – Networking and Collaboration for Casting and Talent Professionals
Someone once told me that “for every niche market, there is a website. If not, build one and you’ll get rich.” Now that I’ve seen Actionextra.com, I can honestly say that there really is a website for every niche–or at least, there should be. While job sites are nothing new and even networking referral sites for many particular trades exist, I can honestly say I’ve never considered the idea that Actionextra works with.
In the world of television, movies and stage acting, there are professionals whose job it is to match actors with parts, stun actors with stunts, and so forth. Those people make their living by having good networking skills and strong relationships with their clientèle–the studios and producers who make these productions happen.
Actionextra is an extension of that, providing a place for casting professionals and agents to come together and form networks to keep each other updated on new casting calls, new talent, and more. Talent is not directly represented on the site, which gives incentive for serious casting professionals to list talent honestly and professionally and cuts out a lot of the “huckster” that can exist with self-promotion.
Casting directors can broadcast needs for talent direction through the site to targeted agents of talent that matches those needs. Agents can respond with offers and talent portfolios through the site and quickly, often with just a few clicks.
Made by Filmrobot Systems, Actionextra is part of their Agencyclick brand of Web properties for entertainment businesses. Actionextra is a full-service (non-beta) app. There is a charge for professionals to use the site, of course, but most will probably find it as reasonable as any trade magazine or conference.
